Speira(Spiral): one of the oldest and most powerful symbols in the world

The Spiral is one of the oldest symbols and has been used since the Paleolithic period in Greece. This complex but powerful symbol is found everywhere and in many ancient civilizations around the world. But especially in Greece, it was a sign and symbol of the ubiquitous Ancient Hellenism and a symbol of the Vital Force.

It was one of the most historical symbols of the Greek world and indicates the Greek origin of all things that have it on them, especially before the classical period of the golden age and after.

We find it in many Greek houses and it decorates architecturally most of the great public and private buildings and monuments.

It symbolizes the creation of life and vitality. The spiral movement is seen everywhere in nature, from ancient shells to the formation of galaxies. Pinwheels, seashells, fingerprints, and even the DNA molecule are all shaped like a spiral. It represents in various ways both solar and lunar forces, wind and water.

It also symbolizes continuity, the rotating sky, the course of the sun, the cyclical seasons, the rotation of the earth. Speira also has the same symbolism as the labyrinth.

It unfolds through myths, religious beliefs and legends. It is engraved in the ground on rocks, but also on prehistoric megalithic monuments. It is painted on small or large works of art on the walls from the time of ancient Thera, but also on almost every vase from the Minoan period in Crete and Santorini.

It is engraved on the sanctuaries and the golden vessels of Mycenae. The Spiral is the only symbol that exists inside and outside the sacred golden vessels of Mycenae, a peaceful patriarchal society. We see it carved into hidden rocks in the sanctuary of the Gods at Samothrace.
