A near tragedy occurred yesterday in Meteora when an American tourist dropped from a high altitude while taking photos at one of Greece’s most spiritual and visited destinations.
Reports claim the 79-year-old woman was focusing on the landscape and her camera, not realising her steps, when she fell from a dangerous height and was seriously injured.
According to local publication trikalavoice.gr, the woman suffered overwhelming fractures from the accident, which occurred under terrible weather conditions shortly before 12 pm.
Initially, the woman was taken to the Kalampakas health center and then transferred to Trikala hospital, where she is out of critical condition and recovering.
Local authorities say the woman is lucky to have survived and warned that tourists should be cautious while taking photos at high altitudes.
