The road in Laconia that hides a million-year-old secret

In South Laconia, in the wider neighborhood of Agios Nikolaos Geopark, near the chapel of Agia Marina, there is a place which literally inspires admiration to the visitor, orthe passer-by.

So there is a simple road, but it does not look like any other, because it hides a secret of millions of years.

It is literally littered with thousands of fossilized shells. In fact, it is worth noting that this specific road is not on the beach, but much higher up, which means that at one time the water level was much higher and areas that are now a coastline were underwater.

A typical example of a similar change in coastline exists in Thermopylae, which was once narrow and is now the edge of a plain. This is a unique spectacle that is found, almost, nowhere else in Greece.
