Halkidiki: Mourning for the 8-Year-Old Who Collapsed in Front of His Parents - Initial Indications About His Death

August 18, 2024

The local community of Ierissos, located on the third peninsula of Halkidiki, is in mourning following the death of an 8-year-old boy.

The child was on summer vacation with his relatives in a settlement in Ierissos when he suddenly felt unwell and lost consciousness.

The boy was immediately transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Halkidiki, where he passed away last night. It is noted that the child suffered from tonsillitis, and there are indications that this led to acute pericarditis. The Arnaia Police Department is conducting an investigation into the case, and an autopsy has been ordered.

Despite the prompt arrival of the ambulance service (EKAV) and the heroic efforts of the paramedics, the child unfortunately did not survive, causing deep sorrow in the local community. The boy’s family has a summer home in Ierissos and visits the area during the summers.

Aristotelis Mayor Stelios Valianos told Thesstoday.gr, "We are truly devastated. A young friend left us suddenly due to an unforeseen event, the cause of which will be determined through the autopsy. The news has spread like wildfire through the local community. Everyone is in shock, witnessing how abruptly the life of a young child can be cut short. We ensured there was a swift response from EKAV, the ambulance arrived quickly, resuscitation efforts were made, and the child was taken to the General Hospital of Polygyros. Unfortunately, the next update we received was that the child had passed away."
