Bird's eye views of Greece always impress us and give us a different perspective of the country that we may not have imagined.
Well hidden beautiful places, small mountains and unknown islands are revealed. For example, the, unknown to many, island of Beautiful Helen, as they call it. This is the island of Kranai in Gythio, which according to tradition was the nest of Paris and Eleni. This is a place in Laconia with a unique beauty that will remind you of the summer...
Kranai or Marathonisi is a green island in the Peloponnese with a special history. So it is said that on this small but beautiful island Paris and the beautiful Eleni spent their first night trying to escape from Menelaus after leaving Sparta. Even the name of the island is based on this story. For it is said that Paris left his helmet behind when he left the island. Thus the island is called Kranai. Or much more simply the island of Beautiful Helen.
This island is located next to the port of Gythion and you can cross it with a small bridge. Apart from its history, it also stands out for its beauty.
Once you are there, you will have the opportunity to admire one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece. It is a white and octagonal lighthouse, which is 23 meters high and its light beam reaches up to 15 nautical miles. Despite its small size, the island has another important attraction in Laconia.
Very close to the lighthouse (which is also called Kranai's lighthouse) is the impressive and at the same time imposing Tzanetaki Tower. It houses the Historical Ethnological Museum of Mani, in an idyllic setting, in a dense pine forest with the church of Agios Petros.
