May 10, 2025

Syros: The Queen of the Cyclades

Syros has taken the top spot in a recent list published by the Dutch website Griekenland.net, which highlights the best undiscovered island destinations in Greece. These are places that stand out for their rich culture and serene energy.

According to the popular travel site specializing in Greece, which is read by millions of travelers, Syros is crowned as the queen of the Cyclades.

The list’s editor describes Syros as a place of “neoclassical elegance”, emphasizing that “the capital of the Cyclades presents a unique blend of Greek aesthetics and European grandeur.”

The author of the guide describes Syros as a place of “Neoclassical elegance,” emphasizing that “the capital of the Cyclades is a unique blend of Greek aesthetics and European grandeur.”

In the town of Ermoupolis, history “comes to life” in its marble squares, neoclassical mansions, and the imposing City Hall located at Miaouli Square, designed by Bavarian architect Ernst Ziller.

The Apollo Theater regularly hosts performances and festivals, while the Upper Syros neighborhood, with its medieval streets, captivates visitors with breathtaking sea views.

The list from Griekenland.net also features islands from the Cyclades, Dodecanese, and Ionian Islands.

Syros: A Destination for All

Syros offers a unique combination of features that can appeal to a wide range of visitors from both Greece and abroad.

This new distinction is part of the ongoing efforts by the Municipality of Syros-Ermoupolis to highlight the island's various offerings. As stated by Giannis A. Voutsinos, Deputy Mayor of Tourism for Syros-Ermoupolis, "Syros offers a combination of features that can satisfy a wide range of visitors, both from Greece and abroad. The unique architecture, local culture, and vibrant traditions blend seamlessly with its unmatched natural beauty, exquisite local flavors, and alternative activities, creating unforgettable experiences."
