Tucked away in northern Greece, just a short drive from the town of Kilkis and about 1.5 hours from Thessaloniki, lies one of the country’s most enchanting natural gems. Locals call it the Blue Lake of Skra—a small, emerald-hued lake surrounded by dense greenery and bathed in sunlight. “Our area welcomes large numbers of visitors every weekend, and we’re working to provide the necessary infrastructure to accommodate them,”
said Kyros Kalavazis, Deputy Mayor for Culture, Sports, and Youth in the Municipality of Axioupoli, in an interview with ERT3.
“The municipality has even proposed a plan to connect the region’s hiking trails, linking Skra Lake with Lake Metallion,” he added.
Once you've explored the lake and soaked in the scenery, make sure to stop by the Skra Military Museum, which showcases weapons, uniforms, medals, helmets, fragments, and photographs, along with relics from the armies of seven different nations who fought in the region during World War I. Nearby, you’ll find the Monument of the Battle of Skra, commemorating one of the most significant Greek victories of the war.
