24-hour nationwide strike on Thursday

September 20, 2023

Due to the mobilisation of air traffic controllers, changes are expected in flights of airlines

The Confederation of Greek Civil Servants’ Trade Unions (ADEDY) and other labour unions will go on a 24-hour strike tomorrow, Thursday, protesting against the provisions of the new labour bill.

ADEDY called for a gathering at 10:30 in the morning at Clafthmonos Square while the Athens Labour Centre and PAME called for a gathering at the same time at Syntagma Square. In Thessaloniki, the strike will take place at 10:30 at the Venizelos statue.

From the public transport, the bus workers have announced their participation in the mobilizations and will proceed to a work stoppage from the beginning of the shift until 9 a.m. and from 9 p.m. until the end of the shift. In practice, the buses will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The ILPAP Employees’ Union has also decided to participate in the strike.

The trolleybuses will run between 9:00 and 21:00 due to the workers’ stoppages from the beginning of the 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. shift and from 21:00 to the end of the shift (00:00).

Air Traffic Controllers and seafarers will also take part in the 24-hour nationwide strike and will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. outside the Piraeus Labour Centre.

Due to the mobilisation of air traffic controllers, changes are expected in flights of airlines which in previous respective strikes informed passengers with tickets on affected flights with a message from the airline or from the respective travel agencies through which they procured their tickets. For the time being, however, there are no announcements from Aegean and Olympic Air.

The strike has been joined by the Olme and the IOE, the trade unions of secondary school teachers and teachers.

Hospital workers and doctors as POEDIN and EINAP participated in the strike with the argument that “the bill introduces provisions that abolish the 8-hour, five-day work and criminalise union activity.
