You Won’t Believe Which Greek Dishes Just Made the World’s Top 50 Street Foods!

April 30, 2025

The renowned global food guide, Taste Atlas, has once again celebrated the best in global cuisine, this time focusing on street food. In its 2025 rankings, it spotlighted the most flavorful and culturally iconic dishes served on streets around the world.

This year’s Top 5 street foods are:

  1. Garantita – Algeria

  2. Guotie – China

  3. Siomay – Indonesia

  4. Birria Tacos (Quesabirria) – Mexico

  5. Parotta – India

Amid fierce global competition, two beloved Greek dishes proudly secured spots among the world’s top 50—recognition that highlights Greece’s enduring culinary excellence.

Kontosouvli claimed an impressive 19th place, while gyros followed closely at 23rd, reflecting the rich flavors and street food tradition that define Greek cuisine. Whether served at bustling street corners or enjoyed at home, these dishes remain favorites both locally and abroad.

What Taste Atlas Says About Kontosouvli:

“Kontosouvli is a traditional Greek dish made from large chunks of pork, marinated with a fragrant blend of herbs and spices, then skewered and slowly roasted—similar to gyros or souvlaki. Its marinade often includes garlic, oregano, thyme, rosemary, paprika, olive oil, lemon juice, and red wine. Slowly cooked on a large spit over an open flame, it develops a delicious crust while staying juicy inside. Traditionally an Easter dish, kontosouvli is now enjoyed year-round, often served with pita, tzatziki, and a classic Greek salad.”
