Holy Week Weather in Greece: Warm Spring Days, Dusty Skies, and Scattered Showers in the West

April 14, 2025

Greece is set to enjoy mild, spring-like weather throughout Holy Week, with rising temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and only a few interruptions from scattered showers and dust-laden winds. Forecasters predict ideal conditions for Easter celebrations, especially from Holy Saturday into Easter Sunday.

A Taste of Spring with Summer Hints

Meteorologists report stable weather patterns, with temperatures trending above seasonal averages. According to Thodoris Kolydas, no major disturbances are expected, though localized weather systems may bring rain to parts of western and northern Greece on Tuesday and again on Good Friday. Winds will generally remain moderate, not exceeding 5–6 Beaufort in most seas.

ANT1 meteorologist Tassos Arniakos noted that from Monday through Wednesday, the country will bask in warm, sunny weather, with temperatures peaking on Holy Wednesday, surpassing 26°C in some areas. Light showers are expected in the west and north on Good Friday, but the Easter weekend is forecast to be clear and pleasant—perfect for traditional outdoor celebrations.

Giannis Kallianos echoed the forecast, describing a Holy Week that will feel like true springtime, especially in the lead-up to Easter Sunday.

Early Morning Chill in Northern Regions

Despite the warming trend, early Sunday morning saw temperatures dip below freezing in northern Greece. The coldest spot was Fort Nefrokopi, recording -2.6°C. Other chilly areas included Didymoteicho (-1.3°C) and Ptolemaida (-1.1°C), mainly in higher altitudes and northern regions such as Macedonia and Thrace.
