A First in Greece: House in Kifisia Features Underwater Bedroom Pool Aquarium

July 19, 2025

Kifisia, Athens – Nestled in one of Athens' greenest suburbs, a striking new residence is redefining the boundaries of architectural design and luxury living. For the first time in Greece, a home has been built with a pool-aquarium embedded into the bedroom wall, offering a mesmerizing underwater view reminiscent of high-end resorts abroad.

Nature has always served as a source of inspiration for humanity — not only as a subject of observation but as a model of complexity and synthesis. Architecture, in particular, has long drawn from nature’s grandeur, with designers incorporating natural elements, biomimicry, and sustainable materials into their work. This residence in Kifisia is a perfect example, blending harmoniously with its leafy surroundings and the natural textures of the region.

Designed by the renowned firm Kordas Architects, the home is an ode to organic architecture. The project demonstrates once again the team’s ability to merge structural form with the environment, resulting in a residence that feels both modern and serene.

Organic Form Meets Urban Comfort

Curves dominate the design language, helping the structure integrate smoothly with the natural topography. The building spans four levels, with balconies and outdoor living spaces arranged to provide privacy and unobstructed views for residents.

The layout of the home creates multiple visual focal points both inside and out, allowing the architecture to interact dynamically with its environment. While the balconies bring playful geometry, the building’s core remains rational and structurally sound, supporting three full-floor apartments—each with three bedrooms—and a smaller studio apartment on the top floor.

The building’s shell and façade aim to merge natural elements like trees, earth, and water with man-made materials, crafting a unique balance. Wooden details, textured surfaces, and lush greenery woven into the perimeter give the impression of a living object, sculpted from nature itself.

Designed for Experience and Emotion

Lead architect Aristeidis Kordas faced a significant challenge: how to deliver maximum experiential and spatial value within a relatively compact footprint. “From the building entrance and rooftop patio, to the poolside areas and basement rooms, our goal was to imbue every zone with conceptual and design richness — all tied together within one cohesive architectural story,” he explains.

While the exterior grabs immediate attention, the interior layout is equally forward-thinking. The home’s flexible and luxurious design fully aligns with modern lifestyle demands.

The Showstopper: A Bedroom Aquarium Pool

The standout feature of the home is undeniably the integrated pool-aquarium in the basement-level bedroom — a first in Greek residential architecture. Until now, such extravagant features were seen only in luxury resorts abroad. But this home brings that same dreamlike ambiance to everyday living.

Positioned along one of the bedroom walls, the aquarium glows with a deep blue hue, evoking the sensation of being submerged beneath the sea. It’s not just a window into another world — it becomes a central part of the living experience, a tranquil backdrop that transforms the space.
