Netflix to begin filming 'Alexander the Great' series in Egypt's Siwa next month | Netflix's Upcoming “Alexander The Great” Series To Be Shot

January 1, 2020

Netflix is working on a new series that will feature the larger-than-life conqueror Alexander the Great, and Egypt and Morocco have been selected as locations where some of the scenes will be shot.

The British production will start shooting in Egypt at the Siwa Oasis in the western desert in February, with director Jack Holland scheduled to visit Cairo between January 23 and 26 to do some interviews as well as inspections for the shoot.

According to FilFan, the streaming service juggernaut has contracted a number of artists in the Egyptian media field, including producer Magdy Nour and Khaled Safwat, to “take charge of technical affairs, provided that a number of young Egyptian actors graduating from the acting studio of the artist Hossam Dagher.”

No release date or synopsis has been revealed about the upcoming show, only that actor Ben Whishaw who played “Q” in the latest “James Bond” franchise has been attached.

Historically, Siwa was a significant location for Alexander the Great as it was there he received the blessing by Ancient Egyptian priests to become the legitimate Pharaoh of Egypt.

Netflix denies ties with ‘Alexander the Great’ Series

Netflix Media Center has released a press statement denying recent news about a new series called “Alexander the Great,” which some rumored was going to be filmed at the Siwa Oasis in Egypt’s Western Desert.

The streaming giant further stressed that the series, which reports said was set to star British actor Ben Whischaw, is not affiliated with Netflix in any way.

Netflix claimed it had no affiliation with the production crew or casting of the series — details that have been announced on different social media networks, adding, “We are so proud of our two original Egyptian series ‘Paranormal’ and ‘Abla Fahita.’”

Egypt’s iconic — and controversial— comedic puppet character “Abla Fahita” is set to return to TV screens, but this time, she will star in a comedy-drama series set to be released on Netflix in 2020, according to an official statement.

Produced in collaboration with OKWRD and ASAP productions alongside EP Amin EL Masri, the series will test Fahita’s acting skills for the first time, following the puppet as her life is turned upside down.

In May 2019, Netflix announced it was collaborating with famed Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy and director Amr Salama on an adaptation of late legendary writer Ahmed Khaled Tawfik’s Paranormal series of novels.
