January 24, 2025

The Beautiful Village Just 1.5 Hours from Athens

Nestled just an hour and a half from Athens and 15 kilometers from the beach of Derveni, Zaholi (also known as Evrystini) is a hidden paradise brimming with nature, history, and traditional hospitality.

Situated at an altitude of 750 meters, Zaholi is surrounded by dense Black Pine forests and is traversed by the Zaholi River, which creates stunning landscapes with flowing waters, waterfalls, and small ponds. Visitors can enjoy an easy hike along the riverbank in the "Mills Stream" area, immersing themselves in the peaceful surroundings.

One of the village's most striking features is the Church of Saint George, located at the entrance to Zaholi. This grand structure, with its 17 domes and 36 columns, was built in 1811 during the Ottoman era in just 39 days. The church has been designated a protected monument and stands as one of the area's most important landmarks.

Zaholi is also renowned for its traditional tavernas, where visitors can savor local meats and delicious meze. The atmosphere is relaxed, offering a perfect setting to unwind and enjoy the authenticity and tranquility of this charming village.

For those seeking a nearby getaway to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, Zaholi offers unique experiences in an environment rich in nature and history.
