We Found the Most Beautiful Seaside Town in Greece — and It’s Like a Fairytale

June 20, 2025

It looks like an island, but it isn’t. You don’t need a ferry to get there. Just hop in your car and head for the Princess of Epirus — and once you arrive, you’ll know the journey was worth every mile. This is Parga: a town so enchanting you’ll wish you had a thousand eyes to take in all its beauty.

Colorful houses, cobbled alleyways, and blooming bougainvillea wrap lovingly around a bay that gazes out over the Ionian Sea. Wandering through Parga’s labyrinth of alleyways is one of the most magical experiences Greece has to offer.

A visit to Parga fills you with peace and beauty — a feeling that stays long after you leave.

Thanks to its location, Parga has been shaped by Ionian Island architecture — influences that reveal themselves in every corner of this fairytale town.

Its position was so strategic that the Venetians once called it “the eye and ear of Corfu.” To shield it from Ottoman invasions, they built a majestic castle that still stands watch over the town today.

Built in the 14th century, the castle is a must-visit for history lovers — and also offers one of the most breathtaking sunset views you’ll ever see. As the sun dips into the Ionian, the waters around the little island glow golden.

Right across from Parga’s harbor lie two green hills connected by a low strip of land. This is the tiny island of Panagia, named after the charming whitewashed chapel and its picture-perfect bell tower that grace its peak.

At the island’s highest point stands a small castle, built by the French during their stay in the region from 1797 to 1814. Its purpose was to control the part of Parga’s bay that the grand Venetian castle couldn’t fully oversee.
