The “Sleeping Beauty” of Agrafa

One of the most unexplored areas in Greece is Agrafa Mountains. It is a mountain range of incredible natural beauty, characterized by diverse landscapes.

In his video Thomas Vassileiou tells about the enchanting exploration of them and describes his experiences on the summit:

If you take a closer look at the summit, you see a miracle of nature. The mysterious peaks of Agrafa form the figure of a woman. The locals call it 'Sleeping Beauty'. This was the first picture I saw every morning when I was little and went to school.

From Mouzaki of Karditsa, a journey into a special world begins. Light and friendly at first, it develops into a wild and inaccessible one. The majesty and size of the mountains make the landscape unique.

The variety of landscapes is amazing. The further I go, the more difficult the path becomes and from one point and then it is inaccessible, but the landscapes are unique. As I keep walking, the dense vegetation gradually becomes thinner and one can see several animals grazing in the mountain pastures. When you reach the top, Lake Plastira is in front of you and the Thessalic plain in the background. Behind you are the majestic Agrafa mountains.

Agrafa mountains cover the entire northern part of the Prefecture of Evritania and the entire western part of the Prefecture of Karditsa.

They have a total of 7 peaks over 2000 meters. The highest of all is the peak Karava with 2184 meters and at its base is Drakolimni(Dragon lake) Loutsa.

The remoteness of the area, the high altitude, the dense forests, the gorges and the rivers have contributed to the preservation of rich fauna and dozens of endangered species of Greek fauna and flora.

The mountain range of Agrafa is inaccessible but hides countless treasures such as Lake Stefaniada, which is located in Argithea in the prefecture of Karditsa and was created in 1964 after a landslide.
