How do the famous Greek summer locations look in winter?

One of the most common stereotypes is that there are locations in Greece worth visiting only in summer or only in winter. Yes, the sunset of Santorini is famous in summer, but think about the winter charm. We definitely enjoy some famous sights or areas during summer, but it is worth seeing them from a different perspective. Besides, Greece is the land of contrasts and therefore it is worth traveling to the same place all year round.

Santorini

It is said that there is nothing more idyllic in summer than enjoying the sunset in Oia, which is one of the most photographed sunsets in the world. However, winter makes the “island of lovers” magical in its own way. When the dark clouds thicken, the sea becomes turbulent and the wind becomes stronger, the sunset can become entangled in these gray colors and create a unique spectacle.

Santorini may not be that radiant and the color of the houses may seem duller in snowy winter, but it is still equally idyllic and beautiful.

Chania

If you find yourself in the old port of Chania during summer, you will definitely take many photos of the picturesque buildings and the sea. You can do the same in winter, but... you should watch out for the sea, which is definitely more aggressive. The wind and the rain often create a scenery that makes you feel like it is taken from a movie and you are the protagonist in it.

Mykonos (Little Venice)

This is one of the most photographed places in the island of Mykonos. Little Venice has all those elements that make it magical in summer and fascinating in winter. During summer you feel like wanting to dive in the waters while overlooking the famous windmills, but winter creates a mysterious atmosphere. And while we have seen dozens of photos of Mykonos in the summer (and especially of Little Venice), photos of this scenery during winter are rare. Anyway, it's simply a dream!

Zakynthos / Zante

The Shipwreck of Zakynthos (Navagio) is definitely one of the five most photographed Greek summer sceneries. We have seen it up close, from above, panoramically... But always during summer. And yet, winter often makes this Greek location even more impressive. It is one of the most famous Greek summer attractions and it proves that Greece is “the country of the four seasons”. Because every season offers different, but equally exciting, experiences.
