10 life-changing quotes by the great Greek philosopher Socrates

November 21, 2020

If you could learn one thing from Socrates, it should be that you cannot teach anyone anything. But however hard you would try, the only thing that would probably work would be to make people think. To help them open their eyes and see what they are capable of. Here are the 10 best quoting lessons by Socrates that we should keep in mind :

  1. The best way to live with honor in this world is to act as you really are, and if you could think about it, you would see that every human virtue is driven by that act.

  2. I am trying to convince you, whether you are younger or older, not to think about the things you possess, but to be more concerned with improving your soul. Virtue is not made by money, but money comes from virtue. That is my teaching, and if that corrupts the young, then I am a criminal.

  3. Improve yourself by studying the writings of other people. In this way, you can easily gain the knowledge that other men have worked very hard for.

  4. I am the wisest man in the world, and this happens because I know only one thing. That in reality, I know nothing at all. I just do not believe that I know the things that I do not know. True wisdom comes from within when we realize how weak our knowledge of life, of the world around us or even of ourselves is.

  5. Whoever wants to shape this world must first shape himself. Remember that there is nothing stable in human situations. Reject the excitement that comes from prosperity or the sadness that comes from difficulty.

  6. The richer is the one who is satisfied with less. Contentment is spiritual wealth, prosperity is poverty.

  7. Worthless people live only to eat and drink. Men of value eat and drink only to live.

  8. My fellow Athenians, I really love and respect you, but I will obey God and not you. As long as I breathe and have strength, I will not stop philosophizing and motivating you as I am used to.

  9. Wrong words are not only harmful, but they also poison your soul with malice.

  10. The search is the beginning of wisdom.
