Psilovrachos. A Greek village with breathtaking views and historic secrets

November 16, 2020

On the borders of Etoloakarnania and Evritania, next to the bridge of Episkopi, a bridge that unites these two Municipalities is one of the most historic villages of mountainous Trichonida: Psilovrachos.

The village is built at an altitude of 330 meters and is drowned in firs and has views in the largest artificial lake in Greece, Lake Kremasta. According to the historian, researcher, and French philhellene Pouqueville, the village was called "Sovolako". This name was the seat of the once homonymous Municipality.

This village is a natural drum that is built on the outskirts of Tsoka at an altitude of 330 meters and has 80 permanent residents. The breathtaking spatial layout of the village is vertical from above below and consists of the Settlements Agia Deftera, Krya Vrysi, Psilovrachos, and Gefira.

The village is famous for the cave of the national hero Karaiskakis as well as for its natural source Sagdaris. In this place on August 6th, takes place the big annual meeting of all residents of neighboring villages, such as Agalianos, Harasti, and Episkopi.
